MUST LISTEN: “Legacy and Leadership: Black Women in Home Care” Podcast

Chekc out a new podcast that SEIU International produced featuring one of our Illinois home care worker leaders, Alantris Muhammad.

The podcast, titled “Legacy and Leadership: Black Women in Home Care,” discusses the legacy of slavery and systemic racism in home care. The conversation leads into present day media and political attacks on home care workers, how these attacks have resulted in wage inequity and suppression, and how all women coming together in unions can be a potent force for change in the home care industry.

Listen to a short segment of the podcast here:

Alantris Muhammad is a Personal Assistant in the Home Services Program from Chicago Heights. She’s served on the DORS Bargaining Team and on our SEIU HCIIMK Executive Board. Alantris cares for her mother and shares her story about how she left a career in insurance to become a full-time caregiver during the podcast.
